Chapter 34
The great universe 0 TAO flows everywhere. This way and that way; in and out; to and fro; up and down; clockwise and counter-clockwise; being and non-being; knowing and unknowing; rise and fall. All things are born from it, yet it does not create them. It pours itself into its work, yet it makes no claim. It nourishes infinite worlds, and all beings, yet it does not reject or hold on to them. Since it is merged with all things, and hidden in their cores, it can be called humble, or small. Nothing is as small as the TAO. Since all things vanish into it, and it alone endures, it can be called Great. Nothing is as great as the TAO. The TAO is not aware of its greatness. Thus it is truly great. It is lord over nothing.
