Chapter 68
A skillful soldier isn’t aggressive. A skillful fighter isn’t violent. A skillful conqueror isn’t warlike. The best way of conquering an enemy is to win him over without antagonizing him. A skillful employer places himself below others. The best way of employing a man is to serve under him. This is called “THE NATURAL POWER (TE) OF NON-STRIVING”, “THE POWER TO USE MEN’S ABILITIES”, “USING THE STRENGTH OF OTHERS”, or “COMPLYING WITH HEAVEN’S WAYS”. This has always been the best way. He whom men most willingly obey continues silently with his work. An humble attitude disposes others to peace and faithful execution of work. Humility allows others to fully develop and apply their talents. Thus, like heaven, one accomplishes everything without doing anything.
