2010 Winter Season Tennis Scores
(winter solstice to summer equinox )

These scores really don't have anything to do with Spectrum's business - they are the scores of friendly matches played between Don and John in an attempt to stay reasonably fit.  The season winner earns a lunch at the local Chinese buffet.

Winter 2010 matches:  Don 1    John 1

Feb. 4   Don   6-2  2-6  6-3   Match time: 2:20
Don ties the season score w/ an impressive win in 40 degree weather. Both players were anxious to get in some court time. Unfortunately for John, it was immediately after the players scarfed down Chinese Buffet [Don's reward for winning the fall season by 1 match]. Don came out of the gate strong, winning the 1st set, hitting his shots w/ conviction. While John couldn't find his serve, and struggled w/ his movement in the 1st set, he dug deep in the well, and turned the table on Don in the 2nd. The 3rd set starts off w/ Don taking the first 3 games, followed by John taking the next three. Don closes the door by winning the final 3 games. With little time left in the winter season, coupled by a real winter here in WV, every match will have significant importance in the season race.(Commentary by John)

John 1  Don 0

Jan. 23  John   2-6  6-7(2)  6-3   Match time: 2:55
John takes the much delayed opening match of the winter season.  Don kept his errors to a minimum as he easily wins the first set.  John went up 3-0 im the second, but Don comes back to force a tiebreaker.  Sadly, Don misses opportunities to take the lead in the third set as John starts connecting with his serves in addition to making several big shots on critical points.
