2006 Fall Season Tennis Scores
(fall equinox to winter solstice)
These scores really don't have anything to
do with Spectrum's business - they are the scores of
friendly matches played between Don and John in an attempt
to stay reasonably fit. The season winner earns a
lunch at the local Chinese buffet.

Dec. 10 John 6-3 6-2
Match time: 1:45

|
Don had more than the usual trouble with the Dixie
Syndrome as John runs away with the match despite
his blown out shoes. Don can only look towards
next season now as John leaves for a three day
buffet, umm, I mean cruise soon... |

Dec. 6 John 7-6(7-5)
7-6(7-3)
Match time: 2:30
|
|
John takes a commanding lead in the season race by
holding on to win this long two set match in
tiebreakers. Don missed too many shots
(usually when he finally had time) while John
continued to be tough when he gets close to the
finish line. |

Nov. 28 Don 2-6 6-3 6-3
Match time: 2:20
|
|
Don was whistling Dixie while John zeroed in on the
corners to take the first set. Don reigned in
his errors in the second and third sets, eeking out
a win to deny John a 3-1 match ratio... |

Nov. 26 John 5-7 6-4 6-2
Match time: 2:30

John stretches his lead with a win in a streaky match.
John went Hawaiian on (5-0) Don in the first set,
but Don roared back with an 8 game virtual bagel to
take the first set 7-5. John got up in the
second 5-2 but Don won the next 2 games before
missing a sure-fire can't-miss smash at the net that
would have tied the second set at 5-5. Don won
the first 2 games of the third set but then hit the
wall as John ran off a vb to take the third. |

Nov. 13 Don 6-4 6-4
Match time: 1:30 |
|
Don fends off John's hopes for a four to one win/loss
ratio with a straight set win on a cool day.
John helped Don out with more than a few double
faults as Don continues to have trouble with the
Dixie Syndrome. |

Nov. 5 John 4-6 6-1 6-4
Match time: 2:00
 |
|
John continues to dominate with a three set win after
dropping the opening set. Don's backhand
continues to improve, but John more than compensated
with stellar net play in the third set. |

Oct. 30 John 6-3 3-6 6-4 Match time:
2:05 |
|
John wins in a relatively short three setter.
John powered through the first set, but Don came
back in the second, trading breaks twice before
consolidating a break to end the set. But John
found some extra energy late in the third, winning
the last two games with well placed shots just
inside the lines. |

Oct. 29 Don 6-0 7-5 Match time:
1:45
 |
|
This match was played immediately after the conclusion
of the previous match. The D-squad moved over
to hang on the fence, but miraculously Don found a
semblance of focus and managed to bagel John on the
first set despite the irregular pace of play.
John climbed on top to 4-1 and 5-3 in the second set
as the D-squad lost interest, but Don won the last
four games to claim a straight set victory. |

Oct. 19-29 John 6-3 7-6(7-4)
Match time: 2:15 |
|
This was match delayed by rain at 5-5 in the second
set. Ten days later the weather cleared and
warmed enough to finish the match. Don went up
6-5 when play resumed. Then the distraction
squad showed up and the pace of play slowed to a
crawl. After several deuces John held his game
to force a tiebreaker. Don let the D-squad get
into his head and the tiebreaker slipped away. |

Oct. 15 John 7-6(8-6)
3-6
6-4 Match time: 2:35 |
|
John pulls out another win on this beautiful fall afternoon match. Don came back
from being down 1-5 in the tie-breaker, to tie it up @ 6-6, but John luckily won
the next two points. Don was one point away from going Hawaiian in the second
set [5-0, any 5
games in succession], but John thwarted his attempt and won a few games before
he closed it out. Third set could have gone either way, but a combination of Don
having a case of Dixie Syndrome [look-away, look-away], and John applying
pressure at the net [aka Mr. Net Man] was enough to allow John to squeak away w/
the win. Commentary by John |

Oct. 12 Don 3-6 6-3
6-4 Match time: 2:20 |
|
Don finally claws his way to a three set win on a cool
windy day. After dropping the first set Don
reigned in his errors while enjoying a few of
John's. The third set could have gone either
way as both players were having to cover a lot of
ground to stay in points. Don nearly fell into
the abyss of replaying match point, but held firm
for the much needed win... |

|
Oct. 9 John 6-2
6-4 Match time: 1:40 |
|
John continue to dominate Don with excellent net play
and smart, well placed shots. Don suspects
John has been playing around on him, sneaking off to
Ohio to see his coach and run volley drills... |
John 2 Don 0
|
Oct. 6 John 7-6(8-6)
1-6 6-4 Match time: 2:50 |
|
Don had chances to go up 3-0 in the third until he
made a Dixie error to let John back in the third
set, and once John gets his adrenalin up in the
third he's hard to stop. |
John 1 Don 0
|
Sept. 26 John 6-4
4-6 6-4 Match time: 2:45
 |
|
John starts the new season by winning a day after
recovering from bad weenies or stomach flu.
The purge seems to have sped John up as Don had to
work hard to get the ball past him. Don
had triple break point to go up 3-0 in the third but
couldn't convert, and once John gets on a roll he's
hard to stop... |
