2008 Summer Season Tennis Scores
(summer solstice to fall equinox)

These scores really don't have anything to do with Spectrum's business - they are the scores of friendly matches played between Don and John in an attempt to stay reasonably fit.  The season winner earns a lunch at the local Chinese buffet.

Summer 2008 matches:  John 11   Don 1

Note: Hover on Bagel (), Virtual Bagel () or Hawaiian (5-0,) icons for more information about a specific bagel or near bagel .

Sept. 21 John  6-0 6-3  Match time: 1:35
John came out hitting hard and proceeded  to hit harder while Don was too bedraggled to put up much resistance, barely saving double bagel wityh a three game streak after losing the first 11 games.  Don definitely needs to take a rest and recover some semblance of strength and energy to have any chance of Dealing with John's increasing firepower...   (Commentary by Don)

John 9   Don 1

Sept. 19 John  6-4 7-6(7-5)  Match time: 2:05
John made half a dozen stick volley winners on screaming passing shots (and what seemed like dozens of routine winners) on his way to another victory, though not without resistance from Don who made quite a few great passing shots anyway, almost taking it to a third set. (Commentary by Don)

John 9   Don 1

Sept. 11 John  7-6  6-2  Match time: 1:45
Don was up 5-3 in the first after winning four games in a row, but John was relentless in making every shot a power shot, coming back to take the first set and run away with the second as Don is still recovering from builder fatigue weight loss syndrome...   (Commentary by Don)

John 8   Don 1

Sept. 1 John  3-6  6-3  6-1  Match time: 2:55
Don hit a few sweet passing shots to close out the first set and had opportunities to go up early in the second set, but John had an easy time dragging Don around the court in the third set.  (Commentary by Don)

John 7   Don 1

August 25 John  6-4  6-7(10-8) 6-1  Match time: 3:05
The first set could have gone either way, but John made a couple stab volley winners on Don's best passing shots.  Don got up 5-2 in the second but couldn't close it out till the tiebreaker.  Sadly, Don hit the wall in the third and couldn't take advantage of the sorry state of John's shoes... (Commentary by Don)

John 6   Don 1

July 21 John  6-4  6-2  Match time: 1:35
Despite Don's much improved backhand and generally high level of play from both players,  John enjoyed another relatively easy day imposing his power game on Don, who is still a wisp of his former self.  Don had points for 5-5 in the first and was in most of the games he lost, but definitely didn't have the reserves to go three.   (Commentary by Don)

John 5   Don 1

July 17 John  6-2  7-6  Match time: 1:40
Don had break point or game point on every game but one in the first set, but John played the big points a little bigger.  Don went up 5-2 in the second set but hit the wall early due to general exhaustion from building, allowing John to win five in a row (just as well as Don didn't have any reserves for a third set).  (Commentary by Don)

John 4   Don 1

July 12 Don  6-4  3-6  7-6(7-2)  Match time: 3:05
Don gets on the board w/ a win in this 3 set mid morning Saturday match. A later than planned start [John’s fault] led to John’s overheated downfall in the 3rd. John had a match point at 5-3, but let it, and the next few games slip by, enabling Don the chance to take the match in a tie-breaker. Don stayed focused in the TB, wining it 7-2.  (Commentary by John)

John 4   Don 0

July 3 John  6-4  6-3  Match time: 1:40
John was on FIRE with his big forehand as he wins again.  Don had 5-4 on his racquet in the first but mangled an easy volley with John well off the court.  Don was somewhat worn down from building so John was easily able to wear him down even more to take the second set.  (Commentary by Don)

John 3   Don 0

June 29 John  6-7(7-5)  6-4  6-4  Match time: 2:45
Don dug out of a 5-3 hole in the first set but couldn't close the deal in another high level match.  Don hit  some great passing shots and angles, but John made made his share of great volleys and came out on top again. (Commentary by Don)

John 2   Don 0

June 26 John  6-4  6-3  Match time: 1:45
Don got the early break to go up 2-0 before John found his heavy hitting rhythm, taking the next five games.  Don saved a point for vb and got a break back, but couldn't save the set or match.  Danny cam was in play... (Commentary by Don)

John 1   Don 0

June 23 John  6-3  4-6  6-3  Match time: 2:50
John starts the new season with a win in this high level match.  Both players were moving and hitting well, earning praise from Danny who didn't even see the best stuff in the first and second set.  Once again Don was just a little too fatigued from house building to keep up with John in the third set. (Commentary by Don)
