No Wonder Democrats Can't Muster Opposition to Orwellian
Tyranny of BushCo Much has been written
about the Democratic party's inability to mount an
effective and coherent opposition to the Republican
Juggernaut. The usual explanation is that
Democrats are spineless, as if that explains the ease in
which legitimate issues raised by a few courageous
democrats (Conyers, Murtha etc.) are routinely countered
by Rove's political disinformation machine and attack
dogs. But
Ray McGovern's recent article,
Men Intoxicated with Power and Courtiers Who Serve Them
offers another possibility. In all
likelihood Rove and an ideologically inbred gang of neo-con "crazies" have been
accessing the private communications of their political
opponents since
shortly after seizing power in 2000
(and their spying is not
limited to reputedly invertebrate democrats but included
Colin Powell and the UN).
Imagine the huge advantage unfettered
NSA wiretaps provide in preemptively countering,
squelching and marginalizing any hint of opposition. Stray Thoughts
from Don Alejandro
who suspects that
Tony Blair has also been spying on his opposition
