Roane County Republican Volunteer Defaces
Neighbor's Door

When I discovered that my door had been defaced (see first
picture below), I walked into the
Republican headquarters and, not wanting to immediately assume that they
had been involved, asked if anyone had "noticed who
had vandalized my door."
An elderly woman
immediately stepped up to to claim responsibility for
"tearing down those fascist lies." She indignantly
informed me that I had "no
right to criticize George Bush" and recommended that I
leave the country if I didn't appreciate what Bush was doing
on my behalf. When I asked her name, she declined to
say, perhaps now wondering if she had violated any elections
laws. I tried (unsuccessfully I'm afraid) to explain
that I and other patriots felt we not only had the
right, but an obligation to criticize the government (or its
head lackey) when members of that government lie to citizens and the world
while abusing power for personal gain.
After
having had conversations with several persons who witnessed
the vandalism it seems likely that another of the Republican
volunteers pulled the indignantly self-righteous lady away from my
door before she was done (which is why she missed one of the
Outsource Bush stickers, as well as the excellent Tom Tomorrow toon that she
probably didn't understand).
The second
picture below shows the door after I repapered it. I
added a corporate flag
that includes a good definition of
fascism (and a quote from FDR),
especially for the benefit of the nice lady who seems to think we should
all fall into lockstep behind her exalted
